Cantay House
Built in 1901 for the Archer Cowley furniture warehouse, Cantay House's façades combine soft red brick with Bathstone dressings. We cleaned every elevation using the Torc system, then replaced or repaired defective stone and brickwork throughout. The middle three gables were rebuilt with new brick and copings, the front elevation was fully repointed, and the original shop signage was repainted.

Every elevation was surveyed before work began, cataloguing eroded copings, spalled brick and stonework worn thin by more than a century of weather and grime.
Assessing the Damage.
Where the original stone had decayed beyond repair, new finials were carved in the workshop by hand, matched piece for piece to the originals' profile and proportions.
Hand-Carving the Replacements.
Each carved finial was lifted into place on the rebuilt gables and bedded in against the new brick and copings, finished flush so it sits as if it had always been there.
A Complete Transformation.
Cantay House restored: brickwork repaired, stone dressings renewed, and the façade returned to its 1901 character on the corner of the high street.
